The CtW Investment Group, which made headlines last month for saying that Activision CEO, Bobby Kotick, is paid too much, and asking shareholders to vote against giving the publisher complete say in setting his compensation, is now asking the same from EA’s shareholders. In a letter to shareholders, the group called out the bonuses EA paid CFO Blake Jorgensen and CTO Kenneth Moss, despite last year’s layoffs and below-target annual performance....

That includes Dynasty Warriors developer, Omega Force, and publisher Electronic Arts (and its more experimental EA Originals imprint). The developer, of course, is no stranger to the genre: 10 years ago, it released the doomed PSP/PS Vita series Toukiden: The Age of Demons – a game that played well enough and did a lot right, but could never find an audience amongst the minute number of people that actually bothered buying a Vita in the West....

According to a Venture Beat report, two new Nintendo Direct presentations are currently in the works at the Japanese company, both due before the end of the month. The first, which the site says could take place March 18, will focus on the Switch’s indie line-up for the next few months, similar to last year’s Nindies spring Showcase, which Nintendo hosted around GDC. This year’s GDC has been delayed, but Nintendo will nonetheless round indie games up for said Direct....

2020 was an especially brutal year for Ubisoft’s image as a welcoming, culturally diverse publisher. A series of allegations of sexual misconduct, which began with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla director Ashraf Ismail, grew into a sort of me too movement that accused several executives and managers of systematic discrimination, abuse and years of sexual misconduct. It took a while, but Ubisoft eventually responded by suspending vice presidents Tommy Francois and Maxime Beland - two of the executives accused, hired an external firm to independently investigate the allegations, and created an online portal for employees to anonymously report harassment....

In a recent report published by Bloomberg, details about Ubisoft’s decision to sue internet titans Apple and Google were further expanded upon. Area F2, a game developed by a subsidiary of Alibaba, was called a “near carbon copy” of Rainbow Six: Siege in a Los Angeles courtroom yesterday, Friday, May 15. “Rainbow Six: Siege is among the most popular competitive multiplayer games in the world, and is among Ubisoft’s most valuable intellectual properties," Ubisoft said, according to the Bloomberg report....

Ubisoft has confirmed that all games developed by its internal studios will be branded as Ubisoft Originals, after gamers noticed the branding attached to the recently-unveiled standalone, free-to-play game The Division: Heartlands. “Moving forward ‘The Ubisoft Original’ mention is attached to all of Ubisoft’s games created in-house by our talented developers,” a Ubisoft spokesperson revealed to Eurogamer in a statement. Ubisoft’s wording suggests that the company may soon expand its remit and publish games developed by studios other than its own, then....

Possibility Space is based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Following the physically distributed model, Possibility Space is a remote working-friendly environment encouraging talent to work for anywhere they want. The studio’s mission is to build “joyful games around human experiences” and it’s interested in training and mentoring people from underrepresented communities and backgrounds. Already, the team is made up of a number of big names and industry veterans. Campo Santo’s Jane Ng (Firewatch) is its visual director....

Now, Microsoft has announced that Undertale is officially heading to Xbox consoles on March 16, 2021. That’s tomorrow if you’re struggling to keep up. The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles via Xbox Game Pass....

In an announcement directly from Supermassive, it has been revealed that Nordisk took a 30.7% stake in the UK studio during 2021. Now, in 2022, Nordisk has acquired 100% ownership of the studio. This makes Supermassive the third wholly owned studio in Nordisk’s portfolio. Pete Samuels, CEO of Supermassive Games’, speaks on the acquisition, “It’s been a little over a year since Nordisk Games made an initial investment in Supermassive Games and our vision for the future....

Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate Studio today shared an update on the Valheim 2021 roadmap and offered the first look at some of the content launching in Update 1: Hearth and Home. The studio originally planned to release four updates this year, instead, it’s now planning to launch Hearth and Home in Q3 2021, followed by the big Mistalands update. According to the studio, it wasn’t prepared for such a large influx of players, which it says “highlighted a thousand new problems and bugs” that needed to be fixed....

This was decades ago (I am old), and you’d think that, if anything, the acceptance of video games as a valid form of artistic expression would have progressed somewhat since then. I’m not sure it has, although mercifully we do seem to have seen the back of the dreaded “are games art?” debate, if only because everyone who ever got involved in it either died or got so bored of the subject that they happily conceded that it didn’t matter either way....

In this Blue Manchu-developed title, you will have to make decisions on where to go, what to do and who to fight. And then you must carry out your strategy against enemies....

One of the main sticking points people have had with the game comes down to its implementation of cosmetics; I’ve already argued there should be a free loot box track on the Battle Pass (similar to the way Apex Legends does it) because I think it’d make you feel like you’re actually earning more as you play – even if the rewards are low-value legacy cosmetics. If you wanted to earn all of that via in-game currency earned from weekly challenges, good luck; you’d ned to complete every weekly challenge for nearly 450 years....

In a weird twist, the Nintendo Switch version does online play – but that release is basically an emulated version of the N64 release rather than a true remaster, coming as part of the Switch Online Expansion Pack, where all the N64 on the console can be found. It’s all a bit of a mess, and a bit of a disappointment. GoldenEye’s multiplayer is undoubtedly its most famous feature, and while it absolutely will forever be at its best when you’re crowded around a single screen – I also feel like online is a bit of a must these days....

Yesterday, Call of Duty: Warzone developer Raven broken its silence to confirm that a patch intended to nerf the overpowered DMR 14, Diamattis, Mac 10 and Type 63 was set to arrive soon. A few hours after the news broke, the patch actually dropped. According to Raven, both the DMR 14 and the Type 63 got a reduced headshot damage, and increased recoil. The Mac 10 had its headshot multiplier cut, and the dual Diamattis now have a wider hip fire spread and decreased damage range....
