EA has officially kicked off the beta test for its new “built-from-scratch” EA Desktop app, essentially Origin’s replacement. The new app promises a cross-network friends list, faster download and patching speeds, and easier access to your library of games both owned, and those part of EA Play. Although sign-ups are now open, EA will be letting players into it in waves. Interestingly, the announcement seems to indicate that Origin will be sticking around for a while longer even after the launch of the new app. “Rest assured that you can still access all of your content on Origin, so you can pick where you play,” the post reads. The new app does not yet have a release date.
