Sony has today announced that the PlayStation 5 is its biggest console launch ever. The platform holder did not reveal any sales/shipment figures, exact or estimated, however. Sony broke the news in a Tweet moments ago, adding that demand for the next-gen console has been “unprecedented,” and assuring fans that more PS5 stock will arrive at retailers before the end of the year. Manage cookie settings — PlayStation (@PlayStation) November 25, 2020 This is an impressive feat for Sony, considering the company is responsible for the PS2 and PS4, two of the world’s biggest console launches ever. It’s not surprising, however, given the anticipation for the new machine, and how successful the PS4 has been with players, shipping over 113 million units life-to-date. Sony previously said it expects the PS5 to break the PS4’s 7.6 million record in the first fiscal year, which so far seems very doable. Hard numbers will likely arrive soon, or at Sony’s next fiscal year recap.
