The PlayStation Gear store has recently been updated with a range of items inspired by The Last of Us Part 2, but none are more eyebrow-raising than a guitar that costs over $2,000. This 20" instrument is a replica of Ellie’s in-game guitar. Model 314ce, the guitar is made by Taylor and is priced $2,299. Pre-orders close at the end of July, but it won’t ship until August 28. “Built with solid sapele back and sides and a Sitka spruce top, this model produces a balanced voice across the tonal spectrum with a rich midrange and clear treble notes,” its description reads.
“My guitar is a hand made Cordoba Luthier C12 constructed with European spruce, Indian rosewood, and maple. It is a top-of-the-line instrument. I paid $1,800 for it. This is absurd,” said musician Emmett Smith, who shared his reaction to the price on Twitter. There’s another, smaller guitar on the store that sports a more reasonable $700 price tag. The top of that one has Ellie’s in-game tattoo. PlayStation Gear also has a few other items like t-shirts, a sherpa jacket, baseball caps, and of course, Funko Pop and Nendoroid figurines. In case you missed it, The Last of Us Part 2 in-game guitars can actually be used to play music, thanks to an elaborate minigame.
